Fishing Report

About Joe Pool Lake

Joe Pool Lake was named after Congressman Joe Pool and was the culmination of over 25 years of planning; the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Trinity River Authority of Texas collaborated in the reservoir’s development. The dam was completed in 1986 and the lake was fully impounded and opened for public use by 1989. Joe Pool Lake is home to four main parks: Cedar Hill State Park, Britton Park, and Grand Prairie’s Loyd Park and Lynn Creek Park. The current record for Largemouth Bass on Joe Pool Lake is 14.45 pounds, 26.75 inches. That fish was caught by Rick Vallejo in April of 2008.

In addition to fishing, you’ll find swimming areas, various types of habitat and multiple boat ramps at Joe Pool Lake. Timber was left in the upper third of both arms of the lake when it was filled back in the late eighties. While the lower end was cleared, large piles of brush were constructed and other features, like bridges and road beds, were also left as structure.
