About Lake Bridgeport

Constructed as part of the canalization of the Trinity River, the Bridgeport reservoir was created by the damming of the river's West Fork in the late 1920s and early 30s. Owned by the Tarrant Regional Water District, the impounded water of Bridgeport is used for flood control, irrigation, recreation, and residential and commercial sales. But the lake is also a very popular destination for fishing and boating.

Fishing Lake Bridgeport

Lake Bridgeport boasts 170 miles of shoreline with plenty of habitat for black bass. You'll find rip rap, boulders, coves, and points, as well as submerged gravel piles near Captain Kidd Point and Steele Island. If you're hunting lunkers, they say the best time to fish Bridgeport is February and March, but you can catch black bass throughout the year.

The current record Largemouth Bass on Lake Bridgeport weighed 12.73 pounds and was caught by Ronnie Parker in March 2020, using a black/blue pit boss. The record Hybrid Striped Bass was caught in April of 2013, was 29 inches long, and weighed 11.88 pounds.
