Constructed as part of the canalization of the Trinity River, the Bridgeport reservoir was created by the damming of the river's West Fork in the late 1920s and early 30s. Owned by the Tarrant Regional Water District, the impounded water of Bridgeport is used for flood control, irrigation, recreation, and residential and commercial sales. But the lake is also a very popular destination for fishing and boating.
